Ascension Just Got Better

For the past several months, our LUA developers have been working nonstop to perfect our code and purge the few issues that remain with it. They’ve re-written everything from the ground up, and the Daggerspine tests were the last thing we needed to get this update up and running. Thanks to your help, we know what it can handle. We are here today to bring you the news:

Our Performance Overhaul is going live.

The results of the Daggerspine testing have skyrocketed our confidence moving forward with Ascension. Where we used to hesitate about adding a new feature, worried that it may conflict with existing systems, now our minds are clear. This update, dubbed “The Performance Overhaul”  will-- yes, you guessed it--drastically increase the performance of Ascension’s realms. The code in question, the things we were testing, have to do with the custom systems here on Ascension--player loot drop on death, random enchantments, etc. These things, which, as you may know, have to send query after query to the server, have been made smooth as butter. Queries that used to take as long as 4 minutes (there were around 10,000 of these) now take upwards of .08 seconds.

An Overview of a Few Changes

You can expect a lot from this overhaul, and we’re excited to truly hit the ground running with what we have in store. At the moment, you can count on the following from this performance overhaul:

The performance overhaul will:

• Allow the server to hold more players without lagging
• Allow the development team to add more features without fear of lagging the server
• Lower the time it takes for the server to process commands that are sent to it from the client (lower diff)
• The way that items drop from players on Sargeras has been vastly improved from a scripting standpoint (it’s going to put less stress on the server)
• The stress that Character Advancement puts on the server has been drastically reduced
• The stress that allocating stats has on the server has been drastically reduceed
