This is our Next Step Forward
Heroes! Today, Thursday the 13th, at 9:30pm server time, we launch the Daggerspine PTR test event. This is the most monumental, most critical leap forward, that Project Ascension has made to date.
We need you. More than ever.
The performance Overhaul we are testing is the key that will turn Ascension from a good server into a great server. It is the end of in-game delay, the death of high server diff, the complete and total re-vamp of our custom systems that for so long have had problems, however small. Has your secondary spec ever overwritten your tertiary spec? Never again. Have you ever experienced the dreaded “9:30 lag”? It’s gone. Do you wish there were more people to do dungeons with? To PvP with? This update will allow for so, so many more players--without the fear of lag that comes with high population numbers.
Performance; the method and code by which the server does what it does, has been vastly, enormously, increased.
We need you on Daggerspine to put it to one final test.
How do I participate?
At 9:30pm CEST (Or 9:30pm server time if you prefer), we need everyone to make a human on our Daggerspine PTR realm and await further instructions. The more people, the more stress we put on these new systems, the better. Our development team will meet you there to instruct you on what to test, and what to try and break.
What exactly is getting better?
We have completely re-written each and every one of our custom systems with LUA (that's a coding language). This rewrite means that our custom systems, from dual spec to random enchantments, will be immensely increased. Here’s a brief list of some of the specifics.
The performance overhaul will:
- Allow the server to hold more players without lagging
- Allow the development team to add more features without fear of lagging the server
- Lower the time it takes for the server to process commands that are sent to it from the client (lower diff)
- Change, for the better, the way players drop items on Sargeras
- Change, for the better, the stress that Character Advancement puts on the server
- Change the effect that allocating stats has on server lag
- Allow for VASTLY more, different, and interesting Random Enchantments
To put it another way, every action made in the game has to query the Server. Around 10,000 queries, on the old code, took upwards of 4 minutes to complete.
This new code reduces that time from 4 minutes to 0.08 seconds.
We need players to stress test this performance overhaul. If it succeeds, if we collect enough data, you can expect great, great things from Ascension in the weeks to come.
This stress test is the gateway, Heroes. We need you to help us push it open.
