The holiday season is here, and that means big updates for Season 9, Winterveil, and the once a year, Winterveil x4 DP Event!
Season 9 received BIG updates over the last 3 days since launch: level 1 Skill Cards by default, Adventure Caches to gear up and find Scrolls of Fortune off of leveling quests, general updates, capital city instancing, and the Winterveil x4 DP Event from now until December 26th! Grab cosmetics, consumables, convenience items and more, and discover big holiday sales to outfit your hero.
Season 9 Events and Updates
Winterveil World Boss: Grumpus, the Holiday Grump
Grumpus returns! This enormous yeti wanders the frozen wastes of Alterac Mountain, squashing holiday cheer with a mighty fist. It’s up to you to stop him: gather allies, make the frozen trek to Alterac, and take him down.
But don’t forget to speak to Riko in capital cities, first. In addition to exclusive Winter Veil cosmetic items, her Daily quest now also grants Scrolls of Fortune. Take down Grumpus, save Winterveil, and get big rerolls on your Wildcard Hero.
Grumpus is available on both Area 52 and Elune!
Capital City Instancing
Due to the increasing number of people online, Stormwind and Orgrimmar now have multiple layers added. You can switch instances on the Callboard to find your friends!
Expanded Level 1 Skill Cards when Prestiging
Prestiging Heroes will now find their Skill Card Collection upgraded with ALL level 1 Skill Cards when they Prestige, meaning you can pick your starting abilities when you Prestige. Both Normal AND Golden Skill Cards for all level 1 abilities are now in your collection, so you can slot all 4, get them instantly, and then swap out Skill Cards for whatever you want before beginning your adventure.
This change allows Heroes to essentially pick their first 4 abilities using Skill Cards, lock in the skills, then swap out cards for whatever they want. Start fast and get to the adventure, Heroes!
Scroll of Fortune Quest Chain Upgrades
The Scroll of Fortune Quest Chain available from Silas Darkmoon is the most reliable way to get Scrolls of Fortune. With this update, two important upgrades ensure that your Marks go further when trading them for Scrolls.
- The Scroll of Fortune Quest Chain now caps at 3k Marks of Ascension, down from 5k
- The Quest Chain now increases in increments of 50, down from 100
These two changes ensure you’re getting the most Scrolls for your Marks so you can power up your Wildcard build!
Adventurer Caches
Gear up on your adventure and conquer the Open World: quests in Azeroth now drop Adventurer Caches! These loot chests contain loot scaled to your level, so every quest you complete is now better than ever before! Adventurer Caches have a chance to contain Scrolls of Fortune, meaning you can now acquire scrolls from leveling quests.
Classless Updates
Winterveil also brings several classless updates that continue to unlock restrictions on abilities so you can play the way you want.
- Totemic Focus now grants you Critical Strike and Haste Rating for each totem you have active
- Many utility spells such as Pick Lock, Water Breathing, and Water Walking have been added to Harrison Jones, the Adventure Mode vendor
- Dark Apotheosis receives Demon Claws, a new ability
