Project Ascension AI Overhaul

 

Greetings, Heroes of Ascension!

 

Much of what goes on behind the scenes and in the screens of Project Ascension is a jumble of code, sweat, and late night coffee. Since the bolstering of our team, our developers have poured month's worth of time into changes that go largely unnoticed by many players--unless they’re working incorrectly. With Ascension Classless on the brink of major updates and Frostmourne around the corner, we thought we’d take some time to shine the light on our AMAZING AI team, because they’ve been hard at work completely re-scripting over 600 creatures from Vanilla to Wrath! That’s right, SIX HUNDRED THIRTEEN UNIQUE creatures have been completely overhauled to function better, smoother, and more Blizz-like than ever before. That’s an enormous portion of the creatures throughout Azeroth; it translates to over 9000 unique spawns; this is in addition to a whole list of other creature tweaks and additions that will be listed below.

 

These changes are intended to smooth out the AI of most of Ascension’s mobs. The overhaul is intended to increase their performance and decisions including:

  • Casting unique spells
  • %hp triggers (Fleeing Mobs, mobs that become vulnerable to certain items)
  • Not casting while moving
  • Casting Animations
  • Mobs giving proper buffs
  • Mobs that spawn other creatures
  • Mobs that debuff their targets
  • Mobs that drop or spawn quest-related items
  • Mobs that complete quests upon their death
  • Creature Dialogue/Text
  • Creature Waypoints
  • Combat Events
  • Escort Events

There are even more quality of life changes than what we’ve listed here, Heroes. Our goal was to make these mobs work exactly like you’re used to--as Blizz-like as we can--so that your journeys through both Ascension Classless and Frostmourne are as immersive as possible.

Enjoy, Heroes, and next time a humanoid correctly flees from you at 30% hp, with 50% reduced movement speed, not casting a Fireball…

 

...just look to the sky and take a solemn, noble nod at our AI development team.
