About Project Ascension

A classless MMORPG built around player creativity

Project Ascension is a free-to-play classless fantasy MMORPG. We started with a single premise: what if, instead of picking a class, you built one? Every ability and every talent in the game is on the table at character creation and throughout your career. The result is a progression loop that rewards experimentation, creativity, and the occasional build nobody has ever tried before.

In traditional MMOs a class decides which spells and cooldowns you use for the lifetime of the character. In Ascension, ability and talent choice is the progression. You unlock a wider pool as you level, respec as cheaply as buying a new piece of gear, and export or import builds for the community to remix. The Character Builder at ascension.gg/en/v2/builder lets you try any combination before you ever log in.

Realms and progression

Ascension runs multiple realms at once. Bronzebeard is the flagship progressive realm, starting at the beginning of the classic era and unlocking expansion content over time. Seasonal realms reset periodically to give returning and new players a fresh economy and the latest content without a catch-up curve. Conquest of Azeroth is our custom realm, built entirely in-house around 21 original classes; access is available through the shop, the in-game Auction House, and newsletter or creator giveaways.

The team

Project Ascension is developed by an independent team — designers, engineers, writers, community managers, and moderators — who ship updates every month. We cover major features through the news board, the changelog, and our YouTube channel so you always know what landed, what's in the works, and where development is heading.

Getting started

Download the launcher for Windows or Linux from our download page, create a free account, and join any public realm. The launcher keeps the client up to date automatically, and system requirements are similar to a classic MMO client — most modern machines run Ascension comfortably. The news board is the fastest way to see what shipped this month.
