Heroes!

Conquest of Azeroth has a MASSIVE update on the horizon, and so much work has been going on behind the scenes. This article contains tons of information about the project so you can get up to speed:

What is Conquest of Azeroth?

Conquest of Azeroth is an upcoming reimagining of World of Warcraft, complete with 21 original classes paired with all of Ascension’s custom features. CoA features 21 completely new classes crafted from the lore of Azeroth, each featuring their own spells, talents, and unique playstyles–progressing through the Original Trilogy on Ascension.

Azeroth has always been bigger than the bits we’ve been able to see, and the goal of CoA is to allow heroes access to hidden parts of the lore and mythos to challenge familiar foes in new ways. Conquest of Azeroth seeks to restore the wonder and excitement of stepping into Azeroth for the first time, and bring back your thrilling journeys learning your class and exploring the world.

CoA will be one more step in Ascension’s expansion from classless into fully Custom WoW, creating a premier place for custom WoW content.

The New Trees

This major update comes with an overhaul to the way talents function and is heavily inspired by the Dragonflight talent system, featuring both a Class and a Specialization tree. This allows for a more granular customization of each of CoA’s 21 classes without being overwhelming, giving you the opportunity to customize your class and stand out.

At level 10, you’ll choose a primary spec. Then, when you open up your talent tree, you’ll see two trees: class tree, and a spec tree. The class tree is a generic skill tree based on your class (Necromancer, Guardian, Cultist, etc.), whereas the spec tree is dependent on the spec that you chose.

As you level up, you’ll alternate between getting a class tree and spec tree point to spend in the appropriate tree. You’ll invest points in BOTH trees to create a build that’s uniquely yours.

Additionally, you’ll find there are a LOT more options than the previous trees. This allows you greater customization of your build, and distributes power from those crazy long skills between nodes. This means you can empower the aspects of your kit that YOU want to shine, making you unique, and ensuring you can play the way you want.

The new Conquest of Azeroth Talent Overhaul launches this Wednesday, June 21st!

Why the Change?

Before, CoA classes had a lot of trouble with pacing. The old system often resulted in crazy long tooltips, tons of passives thrown into your spellbook, a lack of meaningful choice, lack of differentiation, and problems with balance.

This is what you can expect from the new trees:

  1. The power of specific passives and strong spells has been distributed amongst these new talents
    1. So you can choose what you want to be strong
    2. Greater customization
    3. Stand out from other Heroes playing the same class

This new method of doing talents, based on the Dragonflight talent trees, streamlines this process and doubles down on letting you put power where you want, letting you customize your class the way you want to play.

Currently, all of the new Talent Trees are finished and in a QA testing phase to implement final mechanics. They’ll be moving to Rexxar for you to test very soon, and once the community is happy with the implementation, Rexxar will begin the 60 phase where focus will shift greatly towards class balance. Lastly, when these changes hit CoA, Rexxar will be getting some features from the new League.

  • Hardcore Trials
    • With achievements for Conquest of Azeroth class completions
  • New Profession: Woodcutting
  • A more dangerous Open World
  • AoE Indicators
  • Scourge and Legion Invasions

What’s Next for CoA?

You can expect a lot of iteration on the new CoA Class and Specialization trees. Once these are in a good place, CoA moves into the 60 end-game phase.

This will bring with it features like:

  • End-game dungeons
  • Heroic, Mythic, and Mythic+
  • Normal, Heroic, Mythic, Ascended raiding
  • Callboards
  • Greater focus on balance
  • Rated Arenas 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 solo queue
  • Polish!
